Abstract

My aims for this project are to create an artistic vision through investigating and revealing traces of history and to produce interventions that will offer a sense of pride and belonging to the future residents of the new Darwin Green housing development in Cambridgeshire. Essential to my process is the encouragement of developers, architects and planners to think creatively about people and place for the benefit of the built environment. An integral part is a collaboration with a horticulturalist to develop a new variety of sweet pea with seeds being given to the new house owners as part of a welcome pack. The Darwin Sweet Pea planted throughout the site will eventually give the housing development its own unique identity. Evolutionary Links is a permanent, sculptural light installation informed by the life and work of the naturalist Charles Darwin. The process involves collaboration with the developers, architects and planners to think creatively about the built environment within this new development.
