Abstract
Despite the growing demand for innovative teaching methods in sustainable management education, there has been limited exploration of how teaching beyond the strict boundaries of a classroom can benefit GEN Z students. This includes helping them understand the applicability of sustainability-related context in real business practice and equally, exposing them to situations that develop psychological capital, which is essential for coping with challenges, achieving goals, and sustaining positive well-being. This chapter focuses on field trips that were organised to support education for sustainable development (ESD) at different levels of undergraduate business management studies. Data collected through qualitative surveys was analysed thematically. Findings indicate that field trips in ESD can enhance understanding of practical applications in real businesses. In doing so, field trips as a pedagogical method can foster an environment of a learning community where students selfreflect, adapt, and grow together, while continuously considering and reconsidering their personal goals, strengthening their adaptability and developing a forward-looking mindset. However, they alone are not enough to cultivate psychological capital traits. There is a process of ‘scaffolding’ within the study programme that should be supported by both tutor-led and peer learning approaches, both crucial for developing psychological capital.
