Abstract
Regional food supply chains often struggle with providing clear information, tracking products, maintaining scattered record-keeping, and earning consumer trust. Traditional centralized information systems can have data errors and offer limited insight for all parties involved. Blockchain technology has become a promising solution because it is decentralized, unchangeable, and manages transactions securely. This paper introduces a blockchain-based prototype to improve transparency in regional food supply chains. A synthetic dataset of 1,000 agricultural product transactions was created to simulate the movement of vegetables from farms to stores. The prototype measures how many blockchain transactions it can handle, how fast transactions happen, and how products are distributed along the supply chain. Test results show a steady rate of about 0.90 transactions per second, an average transaction time of about 1.1 seconds, and even product distribution across different agricultural items. These results show that blockchain traceability is possible for regional food supply chains and offer a basis for future use with Hyperledger Fabric.
