Abstract

The growth of e-commerce has intensified last-mile delivery challenges, including failed deliveries, repeated delivery attempts, and fragmented parcel flows. Smart parcel lockers offer a flexible delivery alternative that may facilitate parcel consolidation and reduce failed delivery attempts when supported by sustained consumer use and appropriate service conditions. This study applies the Decomposed Theory of Planned Behavior (DTPB) to examine continued smart locker usage intention among 316 experienced consumers in Taiwan. Data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The results show that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and compatibility positively influence attitude, with compatibility exerting the strongest effect. Peer and platform influence strengthen subjective norms, while self-efficacy and contextual conditions enhance perceived behavioral control. Attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control all positively affect continued usage intention. The study provides a contextual application of DTPB to a technology-enabled parcel-delivery service and highlights the importance of service fit, social influence, user confidence, and facilitating conditions. The findings identify behavioral conditions that may support wider locker utilization and more coordinated last-mile delivery, while the associated operational and environmental outcomes remain dependent on actual usage and service implementation.
