Abstract
The film is the story of eleven ex-servicemen who returned from the Great War to live and farm on Cleenish Island in Upper Lough Erne, County Fermanagh. During the Great War, to increase voluntary enlistment, promises were made by the government to provide housing and land to returning soldiers. These eleven men were allocate farms on a remote island, where the solitude and isolation proved difficult for men still traumatised from war. Made in partnership with the Bellanaleck Local History Group and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
