Abstract

Invited by Caryn Franklin MBE (one of the three founders of the 'All Walks Beyond the Catwalk' initiative), Carol Ryder produced this academic blog post for the 'Allwalks' web site (www.allwalks.org) about the role of fashion illustrators in the depiction of the 'fashionable body. The post asks the question whether the role of a fashion illustrator is merely to reflect the 'fashionable body' as dictated by fashion designers and others in the fashion industry, or whether they have the power to influence perceptions about 'the fashionable body' with their illustrations.
