Abstract

Carol Ryder speaks to Liliane Taylor about the life of a textile artist.

Floral, figurative, or landscape, Liliane Taylor’s whimsical embroideries tell of everyday life.

Inspired by artists such as Marc Chagal, Egon Schiele and David Hockney, they begin as drawings which are re-worked using recycled, vintage fabrics, as well as fabrics hand-dyed by Liliane herself, then stitched with hand-dyed threads. In the process of reworking the fabric scraps, she intuitively follows the direction suggested by the materials themselves.
