Abstract

This portfolio details work undertaken towards fulfilment of the five competencies forming the Professional Doctorate in Health Psychology. Professional Practice: The trainee worked in the roles of Assistant Psychologist, Senior Assistant Psychologist and Behavioural Psychologist at OPEN Health, an independent healthcare communications organisation, and carried out independent private practice to fulfil the competencies demonstrated in this portfolio. Professional practice is evidenced throughout the portfolio as the trainee demonstrates their work in line with the HCPC standards of proficiency and relevant codes of conduct including those outlined by the BPS. Evidence of and reflections on professional practice are detailed in the Practice Log and Reflective Commentary respectively. Consultancy: The trainee sought independent consultancy work by engaging with the University of Central Lancashire to deliver a bespoke lecture to a cohort of dental students on managing dental anxiety. A case study, consultancy report and contract are enclosed detailing the process and outcomes. Behaviour Change Interventions: Two case studies have been developed by the trainee detailing a one-to-one, face-to-face dental hygiene intervention and an online mindfulness-based group intervention. Teaching and Training: A five-part teaching series designed to increase health psychology knowledge and understanding was conducted and documented in a case study, accompanied by a reflective diary outlining a number of teaching and training experiences. Research: The trainee produced three original pieces of research contributing to the health psychology evidence base. A systematic review explored the existing evidence for positive psychology interventions in prostate cancer.
