Abstract
VIOLET CITY is a patchwork quilt; a ‘New Weird’, dystopian pantomime, a monochrome and colour photocollage phantasmagoria, a technical jigsaw puzzle, a long, painful labour of love. Shooting on green screen, the layers of this world were disassembled, reassembled and airbrushed in post-production, meaning that this film was the land of a thousand cheats when it came to putting together the sheer scale of a dark fantasy that seemed impossible to realise on a tiny budget. It would put every resource of stagecraft, stamina and will to deliver associated with previous Maxwell productions to the strongest test
