Abstract
A lifelong interest in characterful faces and expressions of personal style inspired Carol Ryder to produce these water colour portraits. The first watercolour portrait, titled 'Cyber Elf', is a portrait of Izzi Von Kohler, Manager of London store ‘Cyberdog’. In this colourful portrait, the artist captures details of Izzi’s carefully crafted personal style and ‘Cyber Elf’ persona. The portrait was executed using Winsor and Newton watercolour inks between December 2020 and January 2021. Highlighter pens were used to produce the neon highlights in Izzi’s hair and glasses. The second piece, 'Gold Stripe', is a playful portrait of performance artist Silvia Ziranek. In this portrait, the artist captures Silvia’s lively personality, bemused expression, and idiosyncratic personal style - including the gold stripe of the title which was painted on Silvia's nose on the day the source photograph was taken by the artist. The portrait was executed using Winsor and Newton watercolour inks between December 2020 and January 2021. The detail of the gold stripe in the painting was applied last, using imitation gold leaf.
