Abstract

Artists Statement
I have always been interested in expressions of personal style, and the complex codes of communication that we as humans use to disclose – or disguise – aspects of our personality, mood, status, ideals and beliefs.
My portraiture work challenges the bland homogeneity and repetitious female stereotypes that permeate popular culture by depicting a diverse range of individuals with idiosyncratic and nonconformist approaches to personal style. I believe it is important to document these highly individual expressions of personal style and celebrate the valuable contribution these individuals make to the broader landscape of contemporary style and culture.
