Abstract
UN_FOLD magazine is an award winning, annual publication, independently published by the MA & BA (Hons) Fashion programmes at Liverpool John Moores University. Founded in 2015 by academic Paul Owen, it is a concept that aligns higher education with industry practices of the creative arts and attempts to tighten the skill gap.
UN_FOLD magazine is also an ongoing personal research project by Paul that is supported through the City Lab, Institute of Art & Technology, LJMU. It explores the possibilities of academia and industry working in collaboration and continues to question if student perception, engagement and working practices change the quality and depth of creative outcomes. It builds on the added value in academia of being embedded into teaching practice and becomes a tool for accelerated learning, maximising opportunities in student’s professional development.
Art of the Terraces Special Edition:
- A student centered project in collaboration with The Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, National Museums Liverpool and the fashion retailers Tessuti and Scotts, in the production a special edition (76 page) of UN_FOLD Magazine dedicated to the exhibition.
- The production of large format images for the gallery / exhibition display.
- A visual response to the themes of Youth, Style and Identity: Culture, Community and Place, associated with the Terrace Casual subculture. (Terrace Culture refers to a youth movement that originated among football fans, sometimes called football casuals, in Liverpool in the late 1970s)
