Abstract

Do you or your organisation use interviews for research or evaluation? Written by Lauren Hall and Dr Ceri Pitches, this guide offers practical advice on using walking interviews and how this research methodology may help you gain deeper insights from participants.

This guide also features a case study, where researcher Lauren Hall reflects on her experience working on the Compass Live Art project as part of the Centre for Cultural Value’s Collaborate programme, interviewing participants through a series of walks in Leeds.

In line with the academic literature, we speak throughout this guide about “walking interviews”. However, it is important to state that the key notion in this methodology is around movement, not specifically walking, and therefore can be used with disabled people, including wheelchair users.
