Abstract

This Perspective explores complementing approaches to managing mining-affected areas, emphasizing environmental protection and active community stakeholder engagement, with the Philippines serving as a case study. As a key player in the global metals sector and one of the world's few megadiverse countries, the Philippines seeks to balance mining expansion for economic growth with its high vulnerability to natural hazards and climate change. Our work aligns with the collection’s theme by presenting strategies to support systemic risk management and resilience in the mining sector, including fostering inclusive networks, partnerships, and collaborations across government, business, investors, and communities.
