Abstract

Law Schools face mounting issues over the decline in student engagement. Traditional teaching methods have, in their time, put in some solid toil for the pedagogical canon. However, relying solely on these methods may increase the disconnect between the demands of classroom participation and how students now learn and engage outside of university. Game-based learning can help place teaching material within a more familiar mode of delivery. This chapter provides a case study that combines one of the most popular tabletop miniature games, Warhammer 40,000, with legal education to deliver a compelling game-based learning experience. The chapter explains how new game mechanics were introduced to test and reward knowledge about a topic, whilst maintaining the integrity of Warhammer gameplay. This case study provides a plug-and-play template to help educators adapt and incorporate it into their own classroom teaching activities.
